The project consisted of the refurbishment of an already existing secondary school building, placed in the main facilities area, for a complex cultural centre.

After analysing the existing building and its relationship with the nearby urban area, our challenge was to create a new landmark, in harmony with the surrounding elements (Alvedoso river, viaduct, parks, general public buildings, etc.), and to use the new centre as a regenerating urban element based on the following strategies:

- By deleting part of the 2nd floor, creating an open plan terrace, a better view of the viaduct -
assigned Cultural Heritage Building - is achieved.

- A first floor auditorium was proposed which opens up a new pedestrian link, revitalizing the marginal border of the river.

- In terms of functional program the building is divided into 3 areas. The first of which is orientated towards the public and is located in the central open plan area; including a library, an auditorium and several exhibition showrooms. The remaining two zones follow logical criteria of functionality and are situated on the north side boundaries of the building.
